Printer manufacturer TVS Electronics maintained its dominance in the Indian dot matrix printer (DMP) market with a market share of 43 percent during the fourth quarter of 2005.

According to the latest Gartner report on the Asia/Pacific printer market in Q4 2005, TVS-E has grown to No. 2 in the Asia-Pacific serial dot matrix (SDM) printer market for Q4 2005 with a year-on-year growth of 37 percent, the company said.

Commenting on the achievement, S. Narendran, head-marketing, TVS Electronics, said, "TVS-E has been making steady progress from being No. 4 in 2003, to No. 3 in 2004, to No. 2 in 2005. With positive economic and business environments and demand from large automation projects in government, banking and retail segments, we expect the growth trend to continue for many years. With innovative product offerings in the offing, we aim to become No. 1 in dot matrix printer segment in the Asia/Pacific."

According to Gartner, Asia Pacific is the only region growing at over 20 percent in dot matrix printer in the world; India ranks third, after China and Thailand, with a year-on-year growth of 17 percent in the SDM printer market Q4 2005. The overall market for DMPs has grown by over 19 percent over 2004. Shipments of SDM printers in Asia/Pacific grew 28 percent reaching 635,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2005, the report stated.

The current estimates are that TVS-E is No. 3 in the world behind Epson and OKI, the company said.
